Challenge:
The aim of the project was to conduct a demo/test via a feasibility study on a wireless structural health monitoring system for concrete structures, with a focus on structures with a serious degradation risk, such as bridges, tunnels, and wind turbine foundations.
Solution:
The project’s solution aimed to reduce resource consumption by enabling technicians to inspect buildings only when IoT-based measurements indicate a need, rather than following calendar-based inspection intervals. This approach, known as risk-based inspection, would reduce unnecessary inspections. The environmental benefit of the project lay in the potential life extension of structures through the implementation of a structural health monitoring system.
